Our day started bright and early as we hopped on a plane at 6:45am to Seattle, Washington. In Seattle, we rented a car and thanks to Google maps, drove to Canada. It was our first time to drive through a border. Nothing too exciting…we answered a few questions, showed them our passports, and were on our way.
We had planned on staying at an Airbnb and about a week prior to arrival date we were notified that Vancouver is cracking down on short-term rentals and that our property was no longer available. We were refunded our money but they could not offer us another rental. With summer being a very popular time to visit Vancouver, we had slim pickins for our accommodations. We exhausted HomeAway and VRBO…nothin! Gary’s mom was traveling with us so with 5 in our party, we would now need 2 hotel rooms. Ugh. Thankfully, the Hyatt Regency had availability and was reasonably priced for such short notice…and the kids were excited that it had a pool! The downtown location turned out to be wonderful.
We hot the ground running and explored the nearby Vancouver Harbour and watched many Seaplanes take off and land…some smoother landings than others! That night we walked to Gastown for dinner and landed at Rogue. After filling up, we strolled up and down the streets of Gastown, did a little souvenir shopping, and saw the Gastown steam clock.
We knew we had an early wake-up call in the morning, so we headed back to the Hyatt to settle in. Next Up…day trip to Victoria!
